Great Junction Street

August 2025 - Great Junction Street, just where it crosses the Water of Leith  

Weather -Warm, dry, sunshine and clouds

Optional theme - Character - quite a divisive theme, some people enjoyed the freedom it gave; others found it too vague

Coffee - Medo Mediterranean Café, Ferry Road - The Red Velvet Cake was especially well received 

Alex wandered up the Water of Leith to photograph the windows of this old building 

Arthur found another beautiful brick building

Beryl found a characterful interplay between this decaying stonework, and a distant high-rise

Colin interpreted the theme to include "characters" - and he found a very colourful line-up of characters in a window overlooking the street 

Eileen found this very surreal scene 

Several of us decided to photograph these barrels - Sandra's image captures them all in a row, in varying stages of dilapidation 

... and several of us photographed this magnificent police box. Ada's shot captures the colours contrasting with the greenery in the background

Gardner's Crescent

July 2025 - Gardner's Crescent 

Weather - Heavy rain alternating with bright sunshine and everything in between 

Optional theme - Stairs and balconies 

Coffee - Loudon's, Fountainbridge. They ran out of rolls. Nice coffee though. 

Sandra used the rain to capture this atmospheric image of rain glistening on leaves

The rain was good for Ada's photo too - accentuating the colours and the textures of Rosemount Buildings

Everyone agreed Alex's photo of a very dejected teddy bear was very depressing 

Alison found a still life on the balconies of Rosemount Buildings

Arthur found some stairs in one of the deserted office buildings surrounding Lochrin basin

Eileen went to the Rosemount Colonies, where she found this very colourful still life of stairs and planting 

Ian C was the only one of us to photograph a general view of Rosemount Buildings 

Foot of the Walk

July 2025 - Foot of the Walk, Leith 

Weather - A lovely summer day 

Optional theme - Colour 

Coffee - Costa, Kirkgate Centre. There's not a lot to say about a Costa. 

A few of us admired some of the very talented graffiti art on show. Kate captured this striking portrait, positioned next to an equally striking blue door.  

Ada ventured to the wild flower garden at the Links. This photo captures a bee hovering by a flower. 

Colin photographed a colourful hanging basket. 

Alex captured a street scene - the caption on the graffiti reads "I hope you never fit in".

Ian C found colour in a display of fruit and veg.

Ian E enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of Musselburgh Racecourse. This image of a horse nosing ahead won our Photo of the Week 

Maggie shared her photos from our last outing, when the theme was "grass and leaves". 

Dr Neil's Garden

June 2025 - Dr Neil's Garden, Duddingston 

Weather - Very hot; we were glad to be out in the morning before the intensity of the early-afternoon sun 

Optional theme - Leaves and grass

Coffee - Café at Dr Neil's Garden - The pot of tea for one was massive! 

Pheasants are regular visitors to the garden. This photo by Colin won him Photo of the Week. 

Eileen used ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) to capture this abstract image of a Hosta. 

Another image of a Hosta. Kate waited until the gardener sprayed this plant to capture the water drops on the leaves, 

Sandra captured some beautiful green leaves.

Alex captured this scene of grasses providing a vertical point of interest in the garden.

June 2025 - Port of  Leith Distillery 

Weather - Beautiful summer day

Mandy found a positive affirmation inside a square, in the main entrance to the Port of Leith Distillery 

 

Sandra's lens picked out a detail from the harbour - a old brick building surrounded by an expanse of bare concrete 

Ada captured a view of Britannia, framed by a square-ish detail in the foreground

Alex captured a view of Edinburgh old and new - the tram going past Chancelot Mills

Arthur photographed the memorial to Thomas Peck Hunter, VC

Beryl captured the view towards Western harbour from the shop on the sixth floor of the distillery 

Is it just me, or does Colin's photo have a feel of "accidental Wes Anderson" about it? 

Ian found an abstract composition in a simple view of a stud in the road 

Kate was drawn to the big square window on the side of the distillery
